Nakhon Si Thammarat was part of the the Srivichai empire from the 12th to the 15th centuries of the Buddhist era. The former education minister said on Thursday that the work undertaken at the hall and its premises should not be a "renovation" project. Nakhon Si Thammarat's City Pillar Shrine was built from 1987 to 1999 in the Srivichai architectural style.
